LAUREL - Firefighters are working to contain two wildfires near Laurel after responding to the lightning-caused fires around 1:15 Saturday afternoon.
One fire is just north of Clapper Flat Road and west of Buffalo Trail Road while the second is north of the first fire and closer to Michaels Road.
The Laurel Fire Department initially responded to the first fire north of Clapper Flat Road. Then, fire departments from Blue Creek, Lockwood, Shepherd, Billings, Molt, Park City, Joliet, Edgar, Roberts, Red Lodge, Belfry and the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation arrived to help Laurel.
Firefighters are on scene with 40 rigs and say they are concerned about homes near Michaels Road, but at there are currently no structures are threatened.
The terrain has made it difficult to put out the fire.
