The Better Business Bureau is warning businesses of a new malicious email that pretends to be from the BBB about a complaint filed against the company.

Many businesses across the U.S. have reported receiving a suspicious email from the address alert@bbb.org or services@bbb.org with the subject line "BBB Complaint Case #" followed by a nine-digit number.

The body of the email claims that the company did not respond to a complaint filed by a consumer and includes a link to a page at www.bbb.org where the business can supposedly review the complaint.

If you receive this email, do not respond; this is a phishing scam using the name of the BBB.

Do not click on the link that appears like a legitimate BBB website; it redirects you to caxehid.getfreehosting.co.uk.

Here is a sample of the fraudulent email:

From: alert@bbb.org [mailto:alert@bbb.org]

Subject: Complaint # 22101311
Importance: High
