Members of the American Legion could be found all around downtown this weekend, raising funds for their new building.
Construction costs for the new building, which was destroyed in the March 2009 explosion, are roughly $750,000, more than the insurance proceeds. In order to raise some funds to make up for the deficit, the American Legion sold raffle tickets over the weekend for $5 each. Thirty one local businesses have donated more than 100 various prizes for the raffle.
The American Legion hopes this raffle, with the community support, will decrease its deficit.
"All we can. You know our hearts are with your hearts, and if you're for it, we're behind you. And it's you that's doing it, you the community, it isn't us, we're just out there trying to lead the way," member Tony Garcia said.
"Everyone has been extremely friendly this morning, personable," Dr. Carlos DeOnis said.
"I think a lot of people that have walked by here have shown interest in the project. They seem to feel that it's a worthwhile cause," Wayne Jennings said.
The drawing for the raffle prizes will take place on Memorial Day, Monday May 31.
Tonight the Bozeman City Commission will decide on granting the Legion over $30,000 toward the new building.
