The official study of the aftermath of the wind event in West Yellowstone from August 28 th , 2010 is now available online from the Great Falls National Weather Service. Here is a link to get the full report: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/tfx/pdfs/WestYellowstoneSurvey_Aug28_2010.pdf Looking at our local weather pattern for the next couple of days a new trough pattern is beginning to move our way. Increasing cloudiness has already invaded the region and look for more moisture to swing into the state as well Wednesday through Friday. This will be a slow moving storm event so there is a greater probability for measurable precipitation and possibly higher mountain snow Thursday night into Friday. The flow is out of the SW today and into Wednesday, this will help produce a few thunderstorms as heat and moisture will work together to produce an unstable atmosphere Wednesday afternoon. As the cooler air moves in behind the storm Thursday and Friday look for a lesser chance for thunderstorms and greater chance for light widespread precipitation. As the trough moves into the northern Rockies look for a cooler temperature pattern to also hit the region. Temperatures will be well below normal Wednesday through Friday with a gradual warming on Saturday. Temperatures will remain below normal into early week. more »
